Wire Brushed Railway Sides.
Feature Wall Panels.

Taken from the side or top of a railway sleeper, these boards have been wire brushed to make them softer and cleaner.
There are less holes than many of our other sleeper products as a portion of the boards have been milled from the side of the sleeper.
Each board displays an abundance of character, including rough, exposed, weathered grain, gravel dents and both rust and oxidisation stains from the tracks, plates and spikes.

Our modular system is supplied in planks pre-attached and offset to charcoal painted backing.
Each 180mm panel comprises two 90mm wide boards.

You can certainly buy any of our feature wall range without our signature ply backing board.
It is important to note that when we supply our timber boards without the ply backing, the timber has been pre-cut into random assorted lengths and packed in jigsaw-like precision to form our 2400mm x 180mm sections (0.432 of a square meter).

See below examples for products such as rough sawn, artisan-two board and artisan-three board:
  • In our 'rough sawn sleeper', the board width is 180mm and there could be one, two or three pieces that make up the 2400 mm length.
  • In our 'artisan-two board', the board width is 90mm, so there would be two rows making up the 180mm width and up to six pieces that make up the 2400mm section.
  • In our 'artisan-three board', the board width is 60mm, so there would be three rows making up the 180mm width and up to nine pieces that make up the 2400mm section.
Reasons to choose our Modular system of ply backed cladding.
  • Incredibly fast and simple installation
  • Minimal waste
  • Excellent for DIY
Reasons to choose our cladding without the backing
  • You already have a wall that is sheeted with ply or similar that you can screw or nail into – gyprock, brick and besser block walls will not suffice.
  • You are using it externally and are attaching it to marine ply or similar, for weatherproofing and insulating purposes.
Reasons NOT to choose our cladding without the backing
  • If you only have a stud, steel, or battened frame.
 - As the timber is supplied in totally random lengths from 300mm to 2400mm, there may be many pieces too small to span the studs. (This makes determining an appropriate waste allowance difficult).
- In this situation, you may choose to 'sheet' your wall with ply or similar, paint it black and glue and nail the timber to the backing.
  • To save money.
- Unless you already have a sheeted wall, it is unlikely you will save money – especially if you are paying a trade for installation.
Marine Ply Backing
Price per panel: $126

Each panel measures 2400 x 180 x approximately 25mm
Price per square meter: $292

All of our timber is suitable for outdoors if under cover.
If the area to be covered is exposed to the elements of sun and rain, some are more suitable than others.
If using our modular system, we can supply it with a marine ply back rather than our standard backing board. This adds $15 per panel to the price.
The most suitable are those taken from an already weathered, external face of recycled timber such as our wire brushed hardwood, artisan two and three board, wire brushed railway sides etc.
The narrower the board, the more stable the product.
Note that the colours and textures of all products will change with exposure and depending on the desired effect, may also require more maintenance.
For further information, please call us on 1300 274787 to discuss what works best for your particular situation.

Timber Feature Walls

Our range of Recycled Timber Feature Walls come in a panel system that takes all the “hard” out of hardwood.
We’ve already;
  • Sourced the reclaimed timbers
  • Cut them up at our mill in Northern NSW
  • Dressed them, wire brushed them, distressed them, sanded them or whitewashed them
  • Staggered the joins, so you can't tell which are ours and which are yours
  • Attached then to a ply backing
  • Flat-packed and strapped them ready to be shipped Australia wide!

How To Work Out How Many Panels You Need

1. Multiply the length by the width of the area you want to cover (to get your square metres)

2. Divide by 0.432 (this is how many panels per m2)

3. Make sure you allow enough for wastage for cuts. (we generally recommend 5%, but areas with more cuts may require more)

4. Round up to the next full panel

For Example;
1. Wall size  4.2 metres wide by 2.7m high = 11.34m2
2. divided by 0.432 = 26.25 panels
3. add 5% for waste = 27.63 panels
4. round up to full panel = 28 panels

How to Install the Panels

Each panel comes in a set size of 2.4m x 180mm.
To install them, always start at the bottom, left hand corner of your wall.

Start with your first 2.4m length.
Simply screw through the exposed ply lip on the top of the panel into the studs on your wall. Continue to the end of the first row.

Cut the last board to fit and always start the next row with the offcut from the previous row.

The next board stacks on top and hides your screws.
It's very simple, but our website has some basic videos to show you how and we're happy to explain it if you'd rather give us a call.
