Timber floors have always been held in high regard for their warmth, durability and versatility, but they too have moved with the times, changing and adapting to market trends.
Thanks to plantation timbers and sustainable forestry management practices, the Australian hardwood timber industry continues to boom.
A popular choice for architects and interior designers, our wide range of solid timber floors provide aesthetic and versatile solutions to interior, exterior, commercial and domestic flooring applications.
Within the vast range of timber flooring products available today, the traditional and still the most popular are the solid, tongue and groove, wooden floorboards. These can be either structural timber floor boards, (19mm thick) or non-structural overlay floorboards (12mm thick).
Northern Rivers Timber supplies a wide selection of Australian native hardwood timber flooring, the majority of which are manufactured at the Northern Rivers Timber mill in the Northern Rivers area of New South Wales.
As a result of our commitment to renewable resources, Northern Rivers Timber also works closely with several sawmills throughout Australia to ensure reliable availability of the widest range of timber flooring in all sizes, grades and profiles at any one time, providing the best that Australian native hardwoods have to offer.
The Northern Rivers range of hardwood timber floors can achieve an effect of harmony or contrast, with warm and understated species such as Blackbutt and Killarney Ash or bold and vibrant timbers such as Blue Gum and Red Mahogany.
A sleek and modern look can be attained through the use of select grade timber floors, which have minimal features or imperfections, whereas character grade timber floorboards, with an abundance of natural appeal, create a more rustic effect.
Mixed species are also popular with the Northern Rivers Creams and Reds selections, carefully picked for their hues of cream, pale brown, honey and gold or rich red, pink and burgundy, respectively.
Northern Rivers Timber has a variety of timber flooring solutions to suit all requirements, from top of the line to budget. All structural flooring by Northern Rivers Timber is tongue & groove, secret nail profiled and end-matched. This means no visible nailing and less wastage.
Overlay Timber Flooring or glue-down flooring (also referred to as Slimwood) is tongue and grooved just like traditional floorboards but at only 12mm thick can be either stuck directly to a subfloor or affixed to plywood. There are definite advantages to using overlay floorboards especially where there is already an existing structural subfloor.
As these floorboards are designed predominately for apartments, they come in considerably shorter lengths (max 2.7m) than the 19mm boards (max 5.7m) to enable easy access into lifts. The only visual difference between overlay flooring and structural flooring is that there will be more joins, which if carefully installed by matching the colour and grain varieties can be minimal.
