Northern Rivers Recycled Timber  is pleased to announce the launch of our Recycled Timber Floorboards and Decking boards.

Sustainable and responsible sourcing has always been a high priority for us. We have a strong commitment to renewable resources, and constantly strive to change and adapt our milling practices with this in mind.

A large part of this commitment focuses on recycling and reducing waste, both from the by-products of our own sawmill and from products we have the ability to rescue and re-use.

Our latest triumph is the completion of our recycling line, producing initially recycled decking and recycled overlay flooring, with plans to expand the line in the near future.

As well the vast environmental advantages of our recycled flooring and decking, the benefits of the products are numerous. Most notable is the long lengths we can achieve in the floorboards and decking boards – ranging from 2.5 – 5m long with an average length of at least 3m and virtually leach free boards.

The manufacturing process goes like this;

1. Feed stock is sourced from the demolition of old buildings, houses, warehouses and factories. The majority is from joists, bearers, beams and purlins, rescued from destruction or exportation!
2. All metal is removed from the timber in our de-nailing facility.
3. The timber is run through the re-saw bench, cut to nominal sizing for flooring and decking.
4. The boards are “sticked out” for kiln drying.
5. The boards are kiln dried to optimum moisture content. As some of the timbers could be 100 years old, the drying process is infinitely shorter than that of new timber, resulting in much less energy consumption.
6. The boards are then moulded as new timber to either a decking or an overlay flooring profile.
7. The boards are then sorted by colour (reds, creams, mixed) and grade (high feature and low feature).
